Tell us a little about yourself…

Pijina Chaikul
People here know me as ‘PAM’, but actually my name is PIJINA CHAIKUL. Yeah!!! I come from Thailand, the Land of smile.

I was born in the eastern part of Thailand and I moved around the country when I was a kid.

I came here for Master Degree in 2004 and I was thinking to finish the course and then go back to my country ASAP. But see? I have been here long enough to call Australia, my second home.

Sometimes, I look tough but well! I m talkative and friendly (That’s what I have heard from others).

I m working as a Chef. Yes!! CHEF I know, it s hard to believe. I have been working in this industry for 2 years and serving western cuisines.

My work is fun but at the same time you have to be tough. You need a passion and imagination to create the food. I would say it is the combination of arts and skills.

I want to work and travel while I m still young. And speaking about salsa, I would love to experience salsa scene in different countries. I LOVE SALSA!!!

My philosophy: ‘It is not good when you are so afraid that it keeps you from doing anything. What you are afraid of is never as bad as what you imagine’

How did you get into Salsa?

I love dancing but every time when I go out for normal clubbing, I just feel that the music didn’t hit on me and I couldn’t have a fun dance until, one night that changed my life.

I went to my friend’s farewell party and it was a LACITA.

My friend took me out for salsa. I had a great time dancing even though I knew only basic steps and salsa music driven me crazy. Since then I told myself that I have to learn more about Salsa routine.

How long have you been learning salsa?

I started salsa class in July 2006 so altogether I have been doing salsa for one and a half years.

I started with group class but at the moment, I m doing a private class with Becky.

I just started social dancing 7 months ago with my classmates. We try to meet up every week to practice the pattern. It starts from once a week and I realized that I need to practice and learn more. So right now i try to go out more often and push myself out of my comfort zone.

What is the best thing about salsa?

Salsa is the best way to express myself. And more than that it’s a good way to meet new friends and you won’t believe the world is so small.

What would you advise someone going to a salsa club for the first time?

For the first time, you step into salsa club, everything seems professional to you.

You will feel excited, especially for the lady, when you see the other ladies dance, you will feel like WOW!!! I want to dance and look sexy like them.

However, when you start you will feel like you forget all your steps.

Don’t give up. I would recommend to just enjoy it, feel the music and don’t be afraid to make a mistake. After all, practice makes perfect.

What makes Salsa Suave such a great place to learn?

Fernando and Becky is my role model.

I still remember my first class with them, It was relax and so much fun. I believe in first impression.

They create friendly environment in the class with styling and attitude.

I would recommend private class with them. You can pick up so many things in a short period of time and they pay attention to all the details.
